OVERVIEW

The teachers are engaged in scientific research and students, beside their regular classroom studies, are interested in different programmes like participation in quiz, wildlife conservation awareness programmes, workshops, seminars and conferences etc.
Year of establishment:Department of Zoology began its journey in 2001-2002 with Zoology (General) and Honours Zoology started from 2006-2007.

OUTCOME

After graduation with Zoology Honours , students can opt for M.Sc in the concerned subject. Beside this mother subject, student can select other subjects like M.Sc in Fishery, M.sc in Entomology, M.Sc Biotechnology etc. based on applied Zoology. Or students can select master degree in Environmental Science or Conservation Biology.

Departmenta Activities 2019-2020

The students and teachers of the Department of Zoology participated in a wildlife rally and poster presentation to spread awareness regarding environmental protection on 18th November, 2018.

Seminar:

  • International seminar on Elements of Periodic Table in the Chemical Avenues of Biological World on 17.12.2019, organized by Department of Chemistry in collaboration with Department of Zoology.
  • State level webinar on Biological aspects of coronavirus on 20.06.2020.
  • State level webinar on Igniting the minds of budding ecologists on 04.07.2020.

Excursion:

  • Chintamoni Kar Bird Santuary with 3rd year Honors students on 20.11.2019 and 12.02.2020.
  • Visit to Rabindra Sarobar on 11.12.2019.
  • Visit to 4 No. Captain Bheri by 3rd year Honors students in August and September 2019 to get an insight about fish farming using urban sewage water from Kolkata.

Participation:

  • Workshop organized by Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and West Bengal Pollution Control Board on Public event on three special reports of IPCC held at Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, New Town, Kolkata, India on 11.11.2019.
