TEACHING LEARNING
The classroom of the department is highly academy oriented and the techniques used by the faculties are highly student centric. The medium of instruction is English. However, mother languages of the students are also most often applied to clarify the concept.

NATIONAL WEBINAR:
Department of Journalism and Mass Communication and Department of Philosophy of South Calcutta Girls College has organized a National Webinar on 7th August 2020. The topic of the webinar was ETHICS IN BUSINESS & PUBLIC RELATION: IN MODERN PARADOX.

Due to the pandemic scenario the entire session was conducted through Google meet. Total number of people attended the webinar was approximately 125.
ONLINE DEBATE COMPETITION:
Department of Journalism and Mass Communication have organized an intra-departmental debate competition on 10th September 20. The topic of the debate was Is Online education can be the substitute of Traditional method of teaching-learning process. Mainly the students of 3rd semester and 5th semester had taken part in the debate competition.Number of participants was 10 from both the semesters. Due the pandemic scenario the entire session was conducted through Google meet. Total number of students attended the competition was approximately 51.
ONLINE PORTAL:
In this Pandemic situation Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of South Calcutta Girls College has taken a big initiative to launch its WEB PORTAL- BLANK CANVAS- A Platform for Expression on 30th June, 2020. However, we have started our journey last June20 with our students and still we are continuing it in order to keep them involved as well as active. This web journal/portal is mainly going to showcase the creativity level of the students. Here the students can share there write-ups, artwork, feature articles, short stories, poetry, photography etc. Through all these activities they all can make the Blank Canvas more colorful and vibrant. Moreover, they all can nurture their creativity level as well.

RESEARCH
(Major/Minor Research project by faculty members, primary data collection by students if any): Each year near about 20 students collect data on different social issues under my guidance for their dissertation paper.
Activities
A special lecture on The Credibility of Local Media was organised by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication in collaboration with Indian Institute of Journalism and New Media, Bangalore, on 24th August, 2018. Prof. Surekha Deepak, Head, Department of Broadcast Journalism of I.I. J.N.M was the speaker.
Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of South Calcutta Girls’ College has organized an Inter-College Poster Competition on 24th December, 2021 on the topic/theme: ‘INTERNATIONAL MEDIA AND SOCIETY’. Students of semester I, III & V participated in the poster competition.
Online Faculty Exchange Programme for Advanced Learner
The Department of Journalism & Mass Communication organised an online Faculty Exchange Programme for Advanced Learner with Muralidhar Girls' College and Vijaygarh Jyotish Ray College on 23rd December, 2021. The main objective of this programme was to guide the advanced learners of 3rd and 5th Semesters of Journalism (Honours) students about how to score better in the upcoming examination. The respected principals of the three colleges, Dr. Aparna De, Dr. Kinjalkini Biswas and Dr. Rajyasri Neogi inaugurated the programme. The Head of the Department of the three colleges, ,Dr. Indrani Raha, Dr. Arnab Kumar Banerjee and Dr. Tanuja Basu Roy delivered their lectures on different modules of the syllabus and suggested different technique of audio script-writing.. Almost 360 students registered themselves for this programme.
Awareness Programme on Course Outcome
The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication has organised a Student Awareness Programme on “Course and Programme Outcome” on 30th April 2022 to analyse each paper of the subject and inform the students about its prospects
