OVERVIEW
Department of Physiology of South Calcutta Girls College has been established in 2001. This Department mainly covered B.Sc. General Course. This Department mainly consists of 3 faculties among which 1 substantive and 2 Guest lectures. The student intake of our Department in each semester is 50. The number of books in the Physiology Department in College Library is 153, whereas in seminar library the number is 22 only. The Department mainly comprises of 2 laboratories in which one laboratory is shared with Department of Botany. Each laboratory mainly consists of 50 square meters. The faculty of this Department mainly involved in research studies. This Department already completed minor research projects in 2012 2014. This Department also going to apply the West Bengal DST Project for future research studies. The number of publication in peer-reviewed journals by the faculties of the Department of Physiology is 43, in which the HOD of Physiology has 38 number of peer-reviewed in his favor.

TEACHING LEARNING PROCESS
This Department mainly emphasized on lectures and practical classes along with field studies. This Department also delivered the lectures with the help of audio-visual presentation along with group discussion among the students. The faculties of this department provide the study materials to the students along with question banks and e- books as well as web links to the various educational sites.
CAPACITY BUILDING (2016 2017 to 2018- 2019)
The Department Physiology arranged Departmental seminar along with Department of Botany ˜Medicinal Plants: Our Silent Pharmacist on 28.01.2016. Speakers: Prof. S. K. Gupta. Students of Department of Physiology participated in UGC Sponsored inter-disciplinary project Field Study at Aamgachia in the year (2016- 2017). Students of department of Physiology participated in Educational excursion to Kerala and its surrounding areas to study the nutritional status and Physiological parameters among the South Indian People. Students of Department of Physiology participated in Planting of Medicinal Plants on ˜World Environment Day in our college campus with the support of Eco Club. Department of Physiology arranged Poster competition with the topic of Modern Applied Physiology on 26th September 2019 along with Power point presentation.
OUTCOME
Human physiology is the science of the mechanical, physical, bioelectrical, and biochemical functions of humans in good health, their organs, and the cells of which they are composed. Human Physiology is the study of how living organisms work. After studying the Human Physiology in the undergraduate level, the students of Bioscience can do the Master degree in Human Physiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Microbiology, Sports Physiology, Ergonomics & Occupational Health, and above all they can do the research in each subject as well as they can build their career academically strong by doing the Ph.D. and by qualifying the Net Exam to become a teachers.

Departmental Activities 2018-2019
The students and the teachers of the Department of Physiology was conducted and participated in a field trip to Bishnupur and surrounding areas on November 2018, to study the Physiological parameters, Anthropometric measurements and Nutritional status of the people of Bishnupur.

DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES 2020-2021
i) The Department of Physiology was arranged an Intra College Poster Competition on the topic Effects of Circadian Rhythm on Human beings during COVID 19 pandemic on 16th September 2020 via Google Meet with the students of Semester I, III and 3rd year students of Bio Science General students along with the Honours students of Botany, Psychology and Zoology Department. The students mainly participate with Power Point presentation of Posters. The Honorable principle of our college Dr. Aparna De, gave the inaugurated speech for the program.The presence of our respected Principal Madam of our college, encouraged and motivate the students for their future participation and studies also. The total registered participants were 53 in number.
ii) The Head of the Department of Physiology published four Publications in Scopus and Web of Science Group (UGC) listed Journals in the academic year 2020-2021.
